'Girl Next Door' was one of the hardest songs I’ve ever written. I can’t tell you how many times I went back to the song to change something. It went through a ridiculous amount of revisions before finding its way to its current state. This song is was written from the point of view of my ex-girlfriend, all while comparing the movie “The Girl Next Door” to my friend Kevin Ivey’s childhood. This song was influenced heavily by James Brown, Doo Wop, All American Rejects, the Nickelodeon show “Victorious”, The Beach Boys, and ambient worship music.
FROM THE ARTIST:
I've always had a hard time being fully transparent in my writing. This song is an example of this characteristic, as I combined a few different personalities and events to create one single storyline. The song was written with a female perspective in mind, signaling the close of a relationship in response to the way she had been treated.
